Looking for births to help me build my portfolio!
I am an experienced doula and am looking to branch out into doing birth photography. For a limited time, I am offering my birth photography services at a steeply discounted rate in exchange for the ability to use the images in my portfolio. The birthing family will have my attendance at their birth (as a photographer, not a doula), a 4X6 print of their favorite image from the birth, 15 low-resolution watermarked images for online sharing, and a hardcover photo book from the birth. My price for this is only $150! (Regular price is $600.)

How does this work?
If you are interested e-mail me to arrange a meeting where you can meet me and see a sample of the photo book. Once we have set up the date and time, I will email you the model release to read and review. It must be returned with payment before the birth or I will not attend.
After the birth I will process images and choose the ones I want to use in my portfolio. I will upload the images to a gallery and send you a link and password to your private gallery. It could take up to a month for your gallery to be ready, or it may happen as soon as a week. You will choose your favorite images for inclusion in the photo book. The gallery will only be available for orders for a limited time.

What’s a model release?
When make arrangements to meet, I will email you the release to print, sign and return to me via mail. The model release explicitly permits me to use the images in both print and web marketing as well as to license them for commercial release. For newborns, the parents or guardian must sign the release as well. Services will not be provided without a signed release. But don't worry! Any photos that show nudity will not be used for anything public.
What if you can't make it to my birth?
Because I am also an actively working doula and childbirth educator, and I cannot provide backup at this price, there is a small chance I may not be able to make it to your birth. (In 11 years of working as a doula, this has only happened twice.) I will notify you ASAP and if I miss your birth, I will refund your payment in full.
Do I have to let you take pictures of EVERYTHING?
No. One of the things we will do in our advance meeting is go over a worksheet that I have developed to let me know what you are comfortable with. In my experience, it varies widely from person to person. I won't press you to do something you are not comfortable with.
What about other people in the photos?
If I select a photo with any other identifiable person (like your midwife, doula, sister, etc.) in it for my portfolio, I will ask them to sign a release as well, but they are not under any obligation to do so.
