Looking for models to help me build my portfolio!

Maternity Photo

I am currently seeking expectant mothers in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy and/or newborns younger than 3 weeks for my photography portfolio. This is not a paid modeling job but you get a free mini portrait session and 1 8X10 print of your choice from the session. Shots will be scheduled at a time and location of my choice and will run for about 30-60 minutes.

If you are interested please read the FAQ and then email me to set up a session date.

FAQs

How does this work?

If you are interested e-mail me to register for a free session. Once we have set up the date and time, I will email you the model release to sign and return. It must be returned before the start of the session or we do not shoot.

After the shoot I will process images and choose the one (or more) that I want to use in my portfolio. I will upload the images to a gallery and send you a link and password to your private gallery. It could take up to a month for your gallery to be ready, or it may happen as soon as a week. The gallery will only be available for orders for a limited time.

How is this different than a regular session?

In a regular session you choose the location, the time of day and get more images to choose from.

Do you have any samples of your work?

Yes, you can see some of my maternity work HERE and some of my newborn work HERE. If you're interested in non-portrait photos I have taken, you can view those HERE.

What’s a model release?

When you set up a session I will email you the release to print, sign and return to me via mail. The model release explicitly permits me to use the images in both print and web marketing as well as to license them for commercial release. For newborns, the parents or guardian must sign the release as well. Sessions will not be held without a signed release.

What if I can’t come to a scheduled shoot?

When you schedule your session, I will give you my contact information so you will be able to let me know. I appeciate as much notice as possible. I cannot guarantee that I will be able to reschedule your session.

What if YOU can't make it to a scheduled shoot?

Because I am also an actively working doula and birth photographer, I occasionally have to reschedule a shoot when I am at a birth. I will notify you ASAP and we will reschedule.

How many shots will I get to choose from?

About 5

What should I wear?

Whatever you like. For expectant moms, close fitting solid colors generally photograph best, but other than that whatever our own style is is perfect. For newborns, have 1-2 outfits and any props you hope to use ready. If parents would like to be in the photos with the baby, think about your own wardrobe as well. A long sleeved solid black shirt for the parent is helpful to have on hand. I will bring some wraps, diaper covers, blankets and hats that we can use.

Do I have to get naked or do bare belly photos?

I am happy to do bare belly shots if that is what you'd like. While I'd prefer to have some belly shots for my portfolio, I don't expect that every mom will want to do them. I won't press you to do something you are not comfortable with.

Do I need to wear makeup?

Only if you usually wear it, and just what you usually wear. It goes without saying that newborns won't need it.

Newborn Hands

Can I bring my husband/mother/best friend? What about older children?

Yes, you are welcome to bring 1-2 people for moral support, but no one else may take photos during the session. (This includes cell phone cameras.) If you bring children, you must also bring another adult who will watch over them and keep them out of the way. I may or may not include siblings in the session, at my discretion.

Do I get paid?

Nope. You get one 8X10 print you may hang on your wall as well a low resolution digital copy of that image for Facebook, email etc. You are welcome to order more at my regular rates.

I have more questions!

Email me and I will be happy to answer them.
