My name is Darrin Lythgoe, and during the day I'm the webmaster for GE Capital Card Services in Salt Lake City (see GE Business Marketplace). Before that I was a senior web developer and a programmer/systems analyst for SmartTalk.com, a software company that specializes in communication. In these two positions I have acquired a significant amount of experience in several different web-related technologies (see my complete resume).
In my spare time I do contract web design and development for a variety of clients (see My Work). I also spend quite a bit of time on my main hobby, genealogy, and in a perfect marriage of the two worlds, I have built what I consider to be the best private genealogy web site on the Intranet. Why not see if you agree?
Although the Web was not around when I earned my degree (BA in journalism, second major in computer science from BYU), my education uniquely qualified me for the work I do. It began a few years back when SmartTalk contracted with a web design company to build its first web site. The price tag was outrageous (about $5,000 for a simple site), and the finished product left much to be desired. I quickly familiarized myself with web development and redesigned the site on my own. Since then I have gone on to design and develop several other sites, both large and small. At GE, I maintain the local Intranet, a conglomerate of more than 30 departmental satellite sites.
In my private life, I'm married and am the father of three daughters, born 1993, 1997 and 2002. We live near Salt Lake City, Utah, although I grew up in Massachusetts and my wife comes from the Bay Area in California.
